Google Cloud’s Thomas Kurian to deliver Sibos closing plenary

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian will deliver the closing plenary at this year’s Sibos in London.

Kurian joined Google Cloud in November 2018. He previously worked at Oracle for 22 years, most recently as President of Product Development, where he led a software development team of 35,000 people across 32 countries. Before that, he worked at McKinsey as a business analyst and engagement manager. Kurian is also a member of the Stanford Graduate School of Business Advisory Council and Princeton University School of Engineering Advisory Council.

Chantal Van Es, Head of Sibos at SWIFT, said: “Thomas Kurian is an incredibly well-respected technology expert and we’re thrilled to have him as a speaker in his first year as leader of Google Cloud. Corporate spending on cloud infrastructure is rising strongly as companies look to improve customer experiences and harness the power of big data. With nearly 30 years of experience, including work with many financial services companies, Kurian will offer delegates genuine insight into the future of global technology infrastructure and successfully managing digital transformation in a hyper-connected world.”

The closing plenary session will also feature Rachel Botsman, a leading expert on trust in the modern world. By distilling complex ideas into clear and compelling content, Botsman provides the tools to understand trust – what it means, how it works and why it is essential for every aspect of our lives. She is the critically acclaimed author of Who Can You Trust? – which explores how technology is radically transforming human trust – and has recently become the first Trust Fellow at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School. She has been recognised as one of the world’s 50 most influential management thinkers and honoured as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.

“A major part of digital transformation is trust and companies must have this at the heart of their strategies. Customers are increasingly mindful of the information companies hold about them, and how it is used. As a go-to voice on trust Rachel Botsman will share invaluable expertise on balancing technological advances with building a trustworthy culture,” added Van Es. “With Thomas Kurian and Rachel Botsman we have a very exciting line up for the closing plenary, where we’ll hear insights on both the business and human side of this unprecedented period of technological transformation.”

Sibos 2019 will take place at the ExCeL London between 23 and 26 September. To find out more about this year’s event, and to register, visit Sibos.com.
