Britain’s challenger bank, TSB, has joined forces with Enterprise Nation to help boost the digital capability of small businesses and entrepreneurs across the UK.
- 50% of Brits say small businesses are falling behind with embracing digital and having an online presence; and over 70% of small businesses are crying out for more support.
- The digital MOT will determine what help and guidance small businesses need, with big brands including GoDaddy, Xero and Experian signed up to support.
From this week TSB’s small business customers will have the opportunity to start taking a newly-created digital MOT test as they join the Enterprise Nation community – the UK’s most active small business network. TSB recently announced a partnership with Enterprise Nation to help boost the digital capability of small businesses and entrepreneurs across the UK and improve their productivity.
New research from TSB1 reveals that:
- More than 50% of Brits think small businesses are falling behind when it comes to embracing digital.
- Six in 10 people would like to see small businesses in their local area have a website.
- More than five in 10 people (56%) think small businesses in their local area will be more successful if they embrace digital.
…and small businesses agree, with research from Enterprise Nation finding that over 70% of Britain’s small businesses and entrepreneurs are crying out for more support when it comes to embracing digital and having an online presence2.
The digital MOT, created by TSB and Enterprise Nation, will determine what advice and support a small business could most benefit from, with big name brands signed up and on hand to help. TSB customers could make use of GoDaddy’s website builder – free for a year, discounted online book-keeping services with Xero, and money off at Currys PC World to buy new technology to name a few.
No other high street bank in the UK currently offers this solution to help bridge this digital advice gap which TSB believes is critical to help more small businesses to thrive, and ultimately address the stagnation of productivity in the UK.
Embracing digital will not only help to unlock the currently unfulfilled potential of small businesses, it will also become a requirement that businesses eventually cannot avoid. For example, from April 2019, small businesses who are VAT registered will be required to submit quarterly digital accounts as part of HMRC’s ‘Making Tax Digital for Business’ initiative.
The Bank is also piloting a branch-based advice scheme, initially in three local TSB branches in Leicester, Birmingham and Glasgow – where TSB’s small business customers will be able to meet with digital experts face-to-face. Appointments, which are free of charge and offer dedicated one-to-one support, will be available for TSB’s small business banking customers to book from 17 April 2018 onwards.
