2016 Event Summary – What a year it’s been!
What a week! What a month! What a year!
Last week we successfully signed off our first event Brexit & Global Expansion Summit. We had over 850 delegates through the doors over the course of the three day event and despite the tubes misbehaving on Monday, we managed to pull off a truly awesome show!
Highlights for us definitely included a fiery discussion between MPs on the Sunday Brexit Roundtables programme. It was fascinating and rather fun to watch Labour leadership contender Angela Eagle and Baroness Susan Kramer debate the implications of Brexit with Douglas Carswell of UKIP and Bernard Jenkins from the Tories.
We were so delighted to welcome such a large group of insightful keynote speakers. Monday saw leaders from GE Digital, Index Ventures and a host of Brexit experts and economists including Gerald Mason of Tate & Lyle Sugars, George Magnus of UBS, Dr Gerard Lyons (former advisor to Boris Johnson) and Robert Koopman of the WTO. Each had a unique perspective on Brexit, how it is really impacting business, global trade and what our future might look like post-Brexit.
Tuesday welcomed some truly inspiring and fascinating innovation leaders and was certainly a highlight for many delegates. The keynote panel was such an interesting discussion on the concept of the next Silicon Valley and innovation hubs around the world. But the real highlight was our final keynote speaker. The audience sat enthralled as Laurence Kemball Cook, the CEO and Founder of Pavegen shared his story of remarkable growth and global expansion.
The rest of the conference was truly packed with three tracks of insightful content on the latest developments in Fintech, Brexit implications and effective sourcing strategies across borders it was difficult for delegates to choose which to attend! Speakers were a true cross section of global decision makers from around the world and a good mix of large corporates, VCs, SMEs, start-ups and government including BBVA, Travelex, Hoxton Ventures, Revolut, Remitly, Funding Circle, Lufthansa, Jersey Finance, Abu Dhabi Global Market, Huddle, Samsung, YoYo and OECD to name only a few.
Combined with break out tracks we welcomed an extremely popular seminar hosted by CII on Doing Business in India and a high level closed door CEO Summit which featured some very honest discussion on corporate finance in the post vote environment.
One of the key highlights of the show was the IN3 programme which was a fascinating exploration of innovation driven cross border growth and a unique platform for increasing collaboration between start-ups, government and large corporates to stimulate international expansion. It was a particularly nice compliment to the theme of the keynote programme on Tuesday.
IN3 was so successful we can’t wait to build on it for next year, welcome more start-up pitches, success story case studies and discussions between investors and corporates tapping into emerging talent and innovation.
Of course, we were super proud of the networking and meetings which took place on our dynamic exhibition show floor. It was a really slick exhibition with a diverse group of exhibitors to meet and do business with. Extra long networking breaks meant our delegates, sponsors, speakers and exhibitors had the chance to make plenty of new connections, as well as attending the conference sessions they were most interested in.
Our swansong was the Official Event Party which took place at the Sky Bar on the top floor of the Intercontinental O2 overlooking stunning views of London’s Canary Wharf and the Thames at night. Over cocktails and canapes our premium delegates enjoyed an evening of relaxed networking and even had the chance to sample the delights of Scotland and Bavaria with Whisky Tasting and huge steins of Bavarian beer!
